Elocon® (mometasone furoate 0.1%): treatment for psoriasis, eczema and other steroid-responsive dermatoses1-3

Elocon cream 0.1%1

  • A thin layer of the cream should be applied once a daily to the affected skin areas
  • Available in 30 g and 100 g tubes
  • Contains the excipients hexyle glycol and propylene glycol stearate

Elocon ointment 0.1%2

  • A thin film of the ointment should be applied once-daily to the affected skin areas
  • Available in 100 g tubes
  • Contains the excipients hexyle glycol and propylene glycol stearate

Elocon cutaneous solution 0.1%3

  • A few drops of the lotion should be applied once-daily to the skin
  • Available in 30 ml and 100 ml bottles
  • Contains the excipients hexyle glycol and propylene glycol stearate

Mometasone furoate, the active ingredient in Elocon, has anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and antiallergic effects. Results from percutaneous absorption studies show systemic absorption to be less than 1%.1-3

Please note: Elocon is a class III glucocorticoid and prescription-only medicine.

Elocon® (mometasone furoate), glucocorticoid group III, available as cream (0,1%; 30g and 100g), solution (0,1%; 30 ml and 100 ml) and ointment (0,1%; 100g). (Rx, F). Indications: Psoriasis, eczema and other steroid-responsive dermatoses. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to the active substance mometasone furoate, to other corticosteroids or to any of the excipients. Elocon is contraindicated in patients with bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitical infections if causal therapy is not concomitantly given. Elocon is also contraindicated in facial rosacea, acne vulgaris, skin atrophy, perioral dermatitis, perianal and genital pruritus, napkin eruptions and post vaccination reactions. Elocon should not be used on wounds or on skin which is ulcerated. Date of last updated SPC: 09/2017
